ISO42001 requires that an organisation should create and formalise an AI policy to support the AIMS (artificial intelligence management system).
The policy should ideally include the following topics:
- business direction
- organisational values
- culture
- amount of risk the entity is willing to take to in its AI development
- the inherent risks that the AI product may cause
- legal issues that arise
- Interested parties and their expectations relating to AI solutions
- The guiding principles for AI development
- Any unintended deviations to the policy
- AI resource needs
- Asset issues
- AI impact assessment requirements
- AI development life cycle
The policy should be approved by top management within the organisation. It should be communicated to interested parties and employees alike. It sets the tone for the creation of the AI framework and management system development.
