This aspect of ISO 37000 recommends that that when activities are delegated the senior leadership team must be clear about responsibility.

Where governance delegation is undertaken the leadership body should delegate responsibility to ensure trust and clarity in such activities.

To achieve sound delegation the leadership team should consider the following:

  • Resource needs
  • Training expectations
  • Desired outcomes
  • Responsibility being aligned with authority

Review of delegation processes and outcomes to ensure effective working relationships.

Clear policies covering any deviations to such policies regarding delegated authority.

Staff should be aware that they must not be held accountable for decisions made for which they have no authority. This can be established with a range of sound delegation policies coupled with a job authority matrix.

The governing body should review internal control measures and identify critical points where governance delegation might occur and apply appropriate measures.
